East Ridge firefighters worked quickly to save a home Monday afternoon. They were called to 8 Edwards Terrace just after 4 pm.
The first firefighters on the scene found heavy smoke and flames. They attacked the blaze in the home while other firefighters cut a hole in the roof to release the heat and smoke. They saved the home but there was an estimated $30,000 in damage.
They say the fire appears to have started in the kitchen as the 78-year-old occupant was cooking. She escaped without injury, but was taken to the hospital for observation.
