State officials say Tennessee has had its first death from the swine flu.
State medical epidemiologist Dr. Tim Jones said Wednesday the victim was an adult who died earlier this month, but he would not release other information such as the patient's age or hometown.
The state has 246 cases of the strain, H1N1, commonly called swine flu.
Jones said the strain continues to spread in Tennessee and likely will get worse this fall when school begins.
Some 700 Tennesseans die annually from the flu strains that normally hit during the winter.
