Smith, Robinson Mr Football Winners
Chattanooga area football players Jacques Smith and Terrell Robinson are Mr Football 2009. They were given the honors in a ceremony today in Murfreesboro.
South Pittsburg quarterback Robinson is the third player in the school's history to win the award. He won the back of the year in Class 1-A. He has verbally committed to UTC. The Pirates will play for a state championship Friday at 1pm in Cookeville against Trousdale County.
Ooltewah defensive end Jacques Smith, who'll sign with the Tennessee Vols, defended his 3-A Lineman award again this year.
Baylor quarterback Jacob Huesman, son of Mocs head coach Russ Huesman, was a Division 2 back Mister Football finalist. Jiajuan Fennell was a finalist in Class 1-A for linemen.
High school head coaches and members of the media nominated the finalists. A committee of statewide sports writers selected the winners, based on their performance, academics and character.
Dave Staley will have more on the ceremonies tonight on NewsChannel 9 at 6 and 11.
