Mom Shares Cocaine Habit With Daughter
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Godwin gets eight Saturdays in jail
A Chattanooga woman who introduced her teen daughter to cocaine and allowed the drug to be sold at her home has been sentenced to spend eight days in jail.
Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Don Poole said 52-year-old Deborah Ann Godwin does not have a prior criminal record.
Godwin is a waitress and will go to jail for the next eight Saturdays, starting this weekend. She will then continue to be on probation.
In a deal with prosecutors, Godwin pleaded guilty to misdemeanor possession of cocaine and contributing to the delinquency of a minor in the case involving her 18-year-old daughter.
Defense attorney Samuel Robinson III said Godwin is a "hard working, tax paying citizen" and acknowledges she made a mistake.
Assistant District Attorney Neal Pinkston said Godwin qualified for judicial diversion, which allows for probation, but his office insisted on some jail time.
