Woman Found Not Guilty of Stabbing Teenager
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A verdict has been reached in, an, attempted murder case in Chattanooga and it's disheartening for a family, seeking justice.
Chekilla Miller has been found, not guilty in Hamilton County Court Wednesday morning.
This trial was the last step in the healing process for victim, Jessica Jones and her family and both Jones and her sister say this verdict has left them with another open wound.
Two years ago these sisters were nearly torn apart in a bar fight and since then they say they've been through a lot.
"It's been traumatic we've been through a lot, we've had counseling and done a lot of things but the good part is that is over now," says Sharmica Satterwhite who tells us she got into a fight with Chekilla Miller in the J & J Lounge parking lot on New Years Eve.
Satterwhite says the man she'd been dating was Miller's husband. The argument got heated and that's when her sister, got caught in the crossfire.
"They said if I would have been five minutes later I would have lost my life. Grace of God that I was here," says Jones.
The wound was so deep, doctors removed one of her lungs, but for Jones, today's verdict brought more pain.
After two days of testimony, Miller, who claimed self defense was found not guilty of attempted murder and aggravated assault.
"In a way I feel the justice system let us down but in the Lord will take care of it, maybe not today but he will," says Satterwhite.
However, Jones says no matter what, her life will never be the same.
"I can't do anything I used to, can't play sports, dance because I'm careful of my life that could end at anytime," says Jones.
We spoke to Chekilla Miller's lawyer Marty Levitt, over the phone.
Levitt says during the trial Tuesday, testimony from witnesses on both the defense and prosecution conflicted.
Levitt went on to say he believed the verdict makes sense based on the testimony and evidence shown in court.
