Kidnap Suspect Has History Of Huffing
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Our investigative team has uncovered much more information about the man accused of kidnapping a six year old girl. Fortunately, the little girl's grandfather and little brother rescued her Monday outside of the East Brainerd Ace Hardware.
We researched Jeremy Mizell's past and learned of his addiction to huffing gasoline. Mizell remains in jail with a one million dollar bond, charged with especially aggravated kidnapping.
We found two relatives of his and learned he has had a very troubled past, each calling the huffing addiction as the source. And, back in 1998, Mizell himself spoke with NewsChannel 9. "Six months down the road, I could end up a basket case."
Back in November of 1998, Mizell talked about his addiction and when he started. He is the same man accused of kidnapping a little six year old girl yesterday.
Ten and a half years ago, when he was 25 years old, Mizell told us he started huffing when he was 15 years old. By age 18 he had been on one week binges and experienced psychosis. His life has been spiraling since.
Today, a relative confirmed he had been living in this S-U-V for about two years. It was parked next to the Ace Hardware. When he grabbed the little girl, Mizell was wearing only a pair of pants. Police found adult pornography inside his Ford Explorer. We also saw a Bible, a copy of George Orwell's "1984," clothing and what appears to be notes on a project of some sort.
Whatever Mizell had in minid with the little girl Monday was stopped quickly by her five year old brother and grandfather.
They rushed to her rescue.
Kenneth Scroggins explains the rage he felt. "I picked up that rock right over there, I was going to bust his brains out. I run to him, I drawed I back. I was going to hit him with it and I reached in there and got her."
A safe and peaceful ending for Scroggins and his grandchildren. But Mizell has been in the Hamilton County Jail about 15 times in the last 15 years. Six of those arrests were for huffing, five of them were for public intoxication.
