Habitat House Honors Mans Legacy
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Its been two years since a wreck killed Chris Horne, the son-in-law of Hamilton County Commission Chairman Bill Hullander. Now, a Habitat for Humanity home is being built so that his legacy will live on.
Commission Chairman Bill Hullander was just one of the folks hard at work this morning on the home, to honor his late son in law Chris Horne. This Saturday marks the two year anniversary of the car crash that killed Horne while he was vacationing in Mexico.
"Chris was very active in helping to what we're doing here today- helping build houses. He had a burden for doing this and it was through Habitat for Humanity," said Commissioner Hullander.
Commissioner Hullander's son Matt says it was Chris's love for helping others that inspired them to use a Habitat House to honor his legacy.
"It's an idea I had after Chris passed away. He was very active with Habitat. He had actually been over seas to Ecuador and different countries to build Habitat houses and it's something I felt would be a good way to remember him," saod Matt Hullander, owner of Hullco Exteriors.
"For us its important because we remember Chris and how he liked it. For the family, its very important . Its giving them a home to live in," Commissioner Hullander said.
The home is being built for Michelle Moore and her two daughters, Corshelle and Coreyunna Peples. Moore says she is touched that so many people are working to build her family home.
"I cant believe that they're here for me, you know, helping me out. I'm sorry for the loss of their family. Its just amazing," said Moore.
She says to finally have a home to raise her children in means so much.
"I can't even put it into words. But what I've been through and what I've been going through and now to actually pay my rent and to know that one day, that it'll be mine- it's amazing," she said.
This home is expected to be completed by March of 2010. It will be the 11th home Habitat for Humanity has built in Chattanooga so far this year.
