The Sequatchie County Commission passed a 25 cent tax increase after originally considering a 13 cent increase, according to one commissioner.
Commissioner David Cartwright says the additional funds will go mostly to pay down a bond balance with the state.
"There was some kind of error we just found out about this week," he said.
Cartwright went on to say some departments went over budget for the year and the commission needed money to operate next year.
"I didn't like to do it, but we had no choice," he said. "Hopefully we won't have to have another increase for two, three years or more."
