    Hundreds Submit Resumes to Volkswagen

EPB will also reap huge benefits

There is growing excitement that continues to build over all the jobs being created in and around Chattanooga after Volkswagen's announcement last week.

Most have heard about the 2,000 jobs directly involved with V-W's new U.S. plant, and the thousands of other supporting jobs that are coming. Right now though, Volkswagen wants to hire 50 people to help with purchasing and other technical jobs related to getting the construction of the plant underway.

That will be followed by a jobs fair in September and future requests for resume's and applications.

During a meeting here at NewsChannel 9 with Volkswagen's corporate communications director, Jill Britana, we learned just how much interest there's been in getting jobs with VW since ads were placed around the the southeast region.

Britana said, "After those ads ran we had over 4,000 people come directly to our VWgroupcareers.com website. About 625 resume's were submitted so it's an outstanding reception and we're just thrilled."

Coming up at five-thirty John Pless will share more from Bratina and information about the jobs coming, the plant construction and the kind of cars VW is building here and worldwide.

Meanwhile Volkswagen's auto plant is expected to generate a huge power bill. The factory, due to begin producing cars in 2011, is expected to become the largest single customer of Chattanooga's Electric Power Board.

EPB's Senior Vice President says the plants monthly electric bill will be in the one million dollar range.
