How to Get a Job with VW
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Volkswagen plans to invest up to 1 billion dollars and create 2,000 jobs, but that's just the beginning. When you figure in all of the support positions, that figure will balloon.
At the news conference today, Representative Zach Wamp said for every direct job, he expects seven support jobs. That means as many as 14,000 positions created by the announcement of just one plant.
According to the President of Volkswagen North America, 20% of those jobs will be white collar/administrative positions, and the rest will be blue collar, technical jobs.
The president would not disclose salary ranges at this time. But we did some research and found out that the average salary, nationally, for a job at an automobile manufacturing plant is more than 20 dollars an hour.
Volkswagen officials say they are committed to hiring and training a well-qualified workforce, and plan to work closely with Chattanooga State.
The automaker hopes to have the plant finished in 2010 and in production by early 2011. However, some of those support jobs could be available sooner.
