Turkey for Two Helping the Needy
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Niki Johnson is a single mom, determined to give her daughters a happy Thanksgiving and with the hope of a few caring people, this year, that will be possible.
"I have two little girls Caitlin and Noel and they are the joy of my life and I just do the best I can for them so I came out to get the extra little help," says Johnson.
However, Johnson is just one of many that walked into Hope for the Inner City and got much more.
Today's Turkey for Two Thanksgiving Drive gave 420 low income families a turkey and a food bag for the holidays.
A fifty dollar donation is all it takes to give a family all the fixins for a free Thanksgiving dinner and volunteers say despite the economy more people have come out than ever before.
Hope for the Inner city has been a staple in East Chattanooga for 22 years and their goal is not only giving to the needy but putting faith in a neighborhood riddled by violence.
Community Relations director Jerry Woods says this turnout is a sign the community wants change.
"I think the more a community works with eachother we can weed out all the bad apples. to get to good ones," says Woods.
In order to do that, they are not only using food, but faith.
"Its not about what you do for a person its how that affects and changes them.. A lot of people right now are without hope and thats what we are," says Woods.
"It's people out here that really need this help and if it wasnt for places like this some people wouldn't have anywhere to go," says Johnson
Hope for the Inner City says they still have a lot left to give away and will be handing out donations through the holiday.
