First Marion County Murder Since 1990's
Comments 0 | Recommend 0For South Pittsburg police searching for a murder weapon is out of the ordinary. However, last night, they canvassed this home looking for a gun.
Investigators believe the 18 year old who lives there used it to fire one fatal bullet into a man's back.
"It was like a pop. I wasn't real sure if it was a gun or fire cracker," says Angela Kahler who lives two houses away from where the shooting happened.
The man who lives in the home is Jareese Edwards.
Police say around 1 o'clock yesterday, Edwards shot 44 year old Steve Ore who had been doing repair work on Edwards' car. That's when police say an argument about break parts between the two got heated.
South Pittsburg Police Chief Dale Higdon says as Ore was kneeling down near the front left tire, Ore shot him in the back.
At the scene police say they found Ore lying dead near the car, however Edwards and his gun were gone.
"The gun we have not located it but witnesses we spoke to say it was a 22 Derringer," says South Pittsburg Police Chief Dale Higdon.
Chief Higdon says Edwards came back to the house to turn himself in a few hours later.
Edwards is now in jail facing criminal homicide charges, meanwhile the neighborhood he left is on edge.
"It puts fear in us. Not that is will happen to one of us but that a ricochet could hit one of the kids," says Kahler.
Off camera we spoke to a neighbor who says drugs may have been involved in this shooting. However, Chief Higdon says he can't confirm that but says its part of the investigation.
