Storm Damage In Marion County
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Calvin Kilgore has had one heck of a cleanup this weekend at his home, just off Hancock Road in Jasper.
"I've seen a couple of trees down but never anything like this," he says.
And looking at his front yard, it's easy to see why. Downed trees everywhere, pulled from their roots, some landing on his roof. And it's all from the tornado that swept through this area Friday night.
"Friday evening my wife was at work and I was here by myself out on the back deck. I went in the house and got me a coke, I hear something roaring," he says.
"I think it lasted only a few seconds. and when I came outside I saw the damage."
Kilgore is lucky--he knows it could have been worse.
Nothing fell into his house, but other parts of his property weren't so lucky.
"We got a dog lot out there, and it's all tore up, got three buildings out here, all with trees on them," he says.
Weather officials say the tornado that made its way through here was one that was very weak. But don't tell that to Kilgore.
"I was really shocked to see how much it had done when i came out. It didn't last but a couple of seconds, I was surprised how quickly it came through here."
He says it knocked him off his feet.
And the damage, from his dog lot to the goat pen, is something he's been cleaning up, most of it by himself.
"I worked all day Saturday and I pretty well worked all day today," he says.
