"I watched him practice on the field, there was no grass, it was 105 degrees and he would throw passes for 45 minutes without a break, never get a drink of water," says Nix.
Nix has followed McNair's entire career, and was surprised to hear about his death.
"Steve was a leader he was tough guy he could play hurt he was a team guy in college he was a man among boys," says Nix.
One day after his death, Steve McNair fans begin a memorial outside his Nashville Restaurant. Police say a close friend found McNair shot multiple times yesterday on a couch inside this condo.
A 20 year old woman named Sahel Kazemi was found lying dead next to him on the floor.
"While it is clear Steve McNair's death is a homicide, as a result of being shot four times, the police department is not yet classifying Miss Kazemi's death. She does have a signal gunshot wound to the side of the head. But there is more investigation required," says Nashville Police Department Spokesperson Don Aaron.
While much attention is being focused on his death.. Nix and fans are remembering his career. McNair retired in 2008. 11 of his 13 seasons were with the Tennessee Titans.
"He beat us in the playoffs and you never thought you had the game won if he had another chance. He was well respected...Anytime a guy gets cheated out of life at 36 years old its tragic," says Nix.
