Memorial For Murdered Student

Students, professors and friends will be gathering just outside Southern Adventist University tonight to remember a young woman murdered on a mission trip.

Kirsten Wolcott, 20, was on the Pacific Island of Yap working a mission as a teacher when she was killed.

A large crowd is expected at 7:00 p.m. to honor the life of Kirsten Wolcott. The junior at Southern Adventist University had a dream to be a student missionary and challenge her walk with God by pushing herself to do more than she had before.

And she had just started to take flight in pursuit of that dream on the small Pacific Island of Yap. But the avid runner had gone running one week ago today before teaching her second grade class.

She never made it. Her body was found in the woods with stab wounds. An arrest has been made.Meanwhile back in Collegedale several people are expected to pay tribute for the Laneview, Virginia native.

In addition to her desire for running, she loved music. She played the harp, piano and sung in Bel Canto, the University's women chorus.

A selection of music will also be played along with speakers.    And to close this memorial service, students and friends will give testimonials and memories of Kirsten Wolcott at an open mic.

Her parents are not able to make it from Virginia for the memorial, but will watch it on the University's website.
