The Chattanooga Downtown Partnership continues the 2008 Nightfall Concert Series tonight, August 8th, on the BlueCross Stage at Miller Plaza with Michelle Shocked and The Lee Boys.

Best known for her 1988 hits "Anchorage" and "If Love Was a Train," this singer-songwriter's music is influenced by her Texas roots, political activism and self-assured style. Performing with Michelle on this show will be The Lee Boys, one of America's finest sacred steel bands.

Opening act the Jennifer Daniels will take the stage at 7 p.m., followed by Michelle Shocked and the Lee Boys at 8 p.m. The format for Friday's show will feature a 30-minute set by The Lee Boys, followed by a 30-minute solo set by Michelle Shocked, culminating with a one-hour set with Michelle and the Lee Boys performing together.

As a special addition to tonight's Nightfall, Michelle Shocked will be hosting a question and answer session free to the public from 5:30-6:00 PM in the RiverCity Company's board room located on the second floor of Miller Plaza.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary, this FREE concert series continues to bring an eclectic mix of rock, blues, jazz, reggae, zydeco, funk, bluegrass and folk music to Downtown Chattanooga. This 17-week series is held on the BlueCross Stage in Miller Plaza on Friday evenings from Memorial Day weekend through September 26th. Beer, wine, food and non-alcoholic drink concessions are available on site. No outside food or beverages are allowed.

Nightfall also holds great weekly giveaways provided by participating merchants of Buy it Downtown, downtown Chattanooga's gift card. This week will feature 20 gift certificates from Lupi's Pizza.

Corporate sponsors for this year's series are Fletcher Bright Company, Unitrin, Northwest Georgia Bank, Bud Light, Southern Honda Powersports, Food Lion, Comcast, Fox 61 and WUTC NPR Music 88. This concert is made possible in part by a touring arts grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission.
