$20 in Athens Goes A Long Way

June 19, 2009 - 1:08 PM

One Tennessee town is trying a new approach to boost its own economy.

Leaders in Athens have been pushing their "Spend 20 on the 20th" campaign for about a month now. They are hoping residents will come out Saturday-- the 20-th of June -- and spend $20 at local shops and restaurants. They say if that happens -- it will be a big help to businesses during one of their slowest times of the year. Since the recession started, McMinn County has had one of the highest rates of unemployment. It currently sits at 13-and-a-half percent.
