Acts Of Kindness And Love

A couple of ladies in Dayton have created what you might call a "fabric of life" that is providing comfort for so many people.

"It's nice when people do something for someone else and get satisfaction," Teresa Clanton said.

It all came from a heart-felt need to comfort someone who is living their last days.

BJ Harvey-Tilley was just 38-years-old when her body could no longer fight the affects of diabetes. So her mother, Ruth Harvey, and her friend and neighbor Ms. Clanton started knitting blankets and afghans.

"Not too many people use that type of knitting, it's like a crochet or knitting or in between," Clanton said.

The ladies use what's called a "K-Tel" knitter. Stitch by stitch, hour by hour, they create something of such comforting value that no amount of money could buy. They make at least 25 a year for Hospice of Dayton, seniors and even babies who need a little warmth.

"It is soft and it is warm, just a lovely touch to me and I just totally enjoy it," Clanton said. "My friend Ruth and I just love to do it and we get so much out of it."

Harvey and Clanton created BJ Blankets in memory of BJ, who like so many just needed that special something to make their lives more comforting. They won't take a penny for their work because the gratitude they get is priceless.

"It's a nice response, I don't think a million dollars could sell that response, it is so happy," Clanton said.
