More People Filing For Taxes Because of New Stimulus Payment

It's April 15th, that day many dread and many like Bianca Sump say they've been putting off their taxes for a reason.

"It's scary to come in. You don't want to see how much you owe. Sometimes if you have to owe. Many a lot of people don't want to know how much they owe the IRS," said Sump who hasn't filed her taxes yet.

Experts say this year there are more people filing because of the new stimulus payment. People who qualify: anyone who makes between $3,000- $75,000 or couples who makes less than $150,000 dollars combined can get up to $600 back per person. The government hopes you'll use the checks to help the struggling economy.

"People are losing their homes, people are having to cash in their 401ks to pay bills. The economy is just really down," said Ann Fuller, owner of a Liberty Tax Services.

The stimulus payment will also go to those who don't normally file like senior citizens, disabled veterans and low income workers. If you fall in one of these categories, Tax agents warn you must file.

You won't owe the government money but you must be on record to receive the stimulus.

Of course filing for a tax return can be stressful and so it's actually a pleasure to go file a tax return where you're not going to pay tax and you know you're going to get a stimulus payment," said Virgnia Sherard, a Revenue Agent.

Experts say if you're not going to make the midnight deadline, you must file for an extension.

Also families with children qualify for more money if you're receiving the stimulus. The IRS says for each child you could receive up to $300.
