Two SWAT Standoffs Moments Apart
Comments 0 | Recommend 0SWAT team members responded to two incidents, moments apart, Saturday afternoon in Chattanooga.
According to Chattanooga Police department spokesperson Sgt. Jerri Weary, officers were told by a relative that 40 year-old Sean Beaty had locked himself in his room with a gun and refused to come out.
Police say Beaty got into an argument with his brother, made threats and ran back to his bedroom where he locked the door.
Once police arrived, Beaty refused to come out and said that he'd shoot anyone who tried to come in.
Members of the Chattanooga Police Department SWAT Team as well as the Hostage Negotiations Team responded and were able to talk Beaty into coming out of the home without incident after about two hours.
Police say they aren't sure if Beaty suffers any mental illness, but he has recently changed medications.
Beaty was taken into custody and is being transported to the Hamilton County Jail where he will face charges for 2 counts of reckless endangerment and 2 counts of simple assault.
And just minutes later, Chattanooga police received a call about a second incident.
Chattanooga police were notified of a disturbance at 601 West 13th Street this afternoon.
Weary says Felecia Petty called to tell them a neighbor was throwing bricks at her apartment.
A second victim, Shawana Burney, told police that she was hit in the leg with a bottle.
Police say when they arrived they saw Pricilla Paris throwing bricks at the apartment.. but before they could take her into custody... Paris ran into her apartment, locked the door and refused to come out.
Police tried to convince Paris to come out of her apartment, and had to call the SWAT and hostage negotiators.
After 40 minutes of talks, the SWAT team and Housing Police entered Paris' apartment and removed her without incident.
Weary says Paris has a history of mental illness.
Paris is at the Hamilton County Jail, where she's charged with 2 counts of aggravated assault, and vandalism.
