UPDATE: Wife Beater Believed in Custody
John Wiser wanted for attempted murder
Children present in the home said John Wiser repeatedly hit, kicked and threw his wife into the wall and then choked her. She is in critical condition.
Officers on the scene of an arrest tell NewsChannel 9 that a man suspected of trying to murder his wife is now in custody.
Shannon Wiser was in critical condition Wednesday morning. Chattanooga police spokesperson Sgt. Jerri Weary says she was brutally attacked by her husband, John Wiser, last night at 3531 Sleepy Hollow Road.
It was around 9:30 pm when Chattanooga police found Shannon Wiser unconscious, suffering from unknown injuries, lying in her front yard.
Friends of Ms. Wiser told police they went to her home and found her after receiving a frantic call from her saying that her husband was going to kill her.
There were children at home at the time of the assault. They told police that John Wiser came to the house, ordered his wife to the bedroom where he repeatedly hit, kicked and threw her into the wall, floor and bed. They said at some point he also began to choke her.
Police are not sure what, if anything, prompted the assault.
Ms. Wiser was taken to a local hospital where she is listed in critical condition.
Police officers who declined to be identified say they have now located Wiser and he is in custody. Warrants have been issued against him for domestic assault and attempted first degree murder.
