The Chattanooga Police Department needs your help to get a man who they say is very dangerous off the streets. Police say the man is connected with several fire bombings, tonight he's back on the streets.
The Chattanooga police department has been working hand in hand with the ATF since last week's wave of violence. Last night we told how they arrested Montez Menifee in connection with that violence, but tonight Menifee is free by mistake.
Our cameras arrived on the scene shortly after investigators taped off this house on 14th street yesterday. Police arrested Montez Menifee and charged him in connection with the fire bombing of this house last week, we're told the ATF requested a hold on Menifee until they could file federal charges, but somehow Menifee still made bond and walked out of the jail tonight.
"If there was a hold on him how was he allowed to make bond?" we ask Sgt. Kim Noorbergen. "We'll right now we're still looking into that, we're not sure exactly what just happened on that," Sgt. Noorbergen says.
Police say Menifee possessed seven molitov cocktails when they arrived on the scene yesterday.
"Possession of a destructive device, a molitov cocktail or anything of that nature is a very serious federal violation," ATF agent Daryl Hill says.
Investigators say Menifee is charged in connection with molitov cocktails being thrown at two cars and into the home last week. Crimes which they say link to LaTony Johnson's murder. Police are still combing the streets for Courrie Long who they say killed Johnson, and now Menifee is accidentally back on the streets as well, and Police say he is extremely dangerous.
"He was involved in this, he had 7 of these cocktails which are fire bomb things that can set houses on fire, hurt people, kill people," Noorbergen says.
Police are asking for anyone who knows where Menifee is to call them immediately. They say you can call at anytime and your call can be confidential.
