Sequoyah Producing Power Again
The Tennessee Valley Authority says its Unit 2 reactor at the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant in southeastern Tennessee is back online.
The Chattanooga Time Free Press reported TVA's newest operating reactor was back at full power Monday after a monthlong scheduled shutdown for refueling, then an unplanned outage last Thursday.
Operators shut down the unit near Soddy-Daisy manually at 30 percent power after indications that a feedwater pump turbine was losing vacuum, according to a report by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The pump is on the non-nuclear side of energy production at the plant.
TVA spokesman Terry Johnson said Unit 2 again reached full power on Sunday night.
Each of the two units at Sequoyah produces enough electricity to power two cities the size of Chattanooga.
