Summer Reading Program Challenges Kids

Thousands of kids took on a challenge to read 10 books or more this summer.

Today, many of them came to the First Tennessee Pavillion to celebrate turning the final page.
The Public Library's summer reading program had children on an 8 week challenge.

Kids were given books in their reading level and had to log what they've read.
Community Relations Coordinator, Andria Davis says the program helps put a stop to the summer veg time.

"Every aspect of learning goes back to reading and knowing and understand the written word. Even math problems can be simple numbers but when you get into the word problems you have to read," says Andria Davis, Library Community Relations Coordinator.

The theme this year was: Make A Splash- READ!
Kids in the program read over one hundred and fifty THOUDSAND books within the past 8 weeks.
