A proposal that would expand the Tennessee Tollway Act is headed to the governor for his consideration.

The measure sponsored by Republican Sen. Bo Watson of Hixson passed the Senate 27-1 on Monday. The companion bill was approved in the House earlier this month. Current law requires the development of two tollway pilot projects for development - one new highway project and one major bridge project. One of the projects underconsidered is The Tennessee River Bridge that would run basically between Harrison and Soddy Daisy.

The proposal would authorize one new highway project and one major bridge project, two new highway projects or two major bridge projects. Gov. Phil Bredesen spokeswoman Lydia Lenker says the governor will review the legislation once it reaches his desk.
