Tubers Rescued

Associated Press

TOWNSEND, Tenn. (AP) - The Townsend volunteer fire department had to rescue eight inner tubers from the Little River over the weekend.

Townsend Police Chief Ronnie Suttles told Maryville newspaper The Daily Times that tubers get pinned against rocks by the force of the river and cannot get free.

All eight people were trapped at a bend in the river behind the Tennessee Great Smokies KOA campground.

Suttles said the upper end of the river is dangerous and someone could get badly injured there.
