Man Hurt on Barge

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Bradley County Fire and Rescue crews had to use ropes and a stokes basket... what's known as a "high angle rescue" ... to remove a seriously injured man from a barge on the Tennessee River Monday afternoon around 3:30.

Stan Clark, a spokesperson for Bradley County EMS, said the 45-year-old man was working on a barge on the Tennessee River by Olin Chemical Company on Old Lower River Rd. in Charleston, Tenn. when he fell off of a ladder. He fell about 15 feet onto another barge below.  The director of Public Affairs for Olin says the incident happened at Smokey Mountain Transfer.

The man was flown by Air Evac to Erlanger Medical Center.

Bradley County authorities are not releasing the man's identity but say he is in stable condition.
