Schools Partner With TVA on Robotics

Students at several downtown Chattanooga schools have gained valuable math application skills with funding from TVA for robotics programs.

Now those students will put those newfound skills to the test at a local competition on Saturday November 21, 2009. The competition, hosted by the Chattanooga Engineers’ Club, will be held at the TVA Advanced Vehicle Test Facility from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The First Lego League (FLL) Robotics program provides opportunities for students to work as a team to build and program robots to complete missions related to a specific topic. This year’s challenge, called Smart Moves, involves students researching and reflecting on smart ways to move people and things safely to locations in different ways.

Students have been preparing for the competition for months problem solving to complete the assigned missions, researching a relevant transportation problem, and creating a solution for the problem.

At the competition students will speak with local experts to learn more about their topics of interest and showcase their learning thus far. This day will serve as a practice to get ready for the State Competition on December 5th in Cookeville at Tennessee Tech University.
