A Collegedale man recovers in the hosptial from a dumbbell beating and stabbing while his roommate faces an attempted murder charge. Collegedale police and paramedics rushed to Grindstone Estates R.V. Park.
The first call came in that a man had fallen from a tree. 31 year old Jeremy Smith went to a neighbor, with blood on his head and chest saying he had fell out of a tree. His mother later told us he was quote out of his head.
Police arrested Smith's roommate Scott Hawtin. He has been charged with attempted murder. Investigators say the crime happened inside this R.V. They suspect Hawtin hit Smith in the head with a dumbbell. Smith later stumbled up to neighbor Diana Aumack's R.V. "I know the young man said that he was asleep when he was attacked. And he wasn't sure what he hit him with and that he wouldn't let him leave. And that is probably the reason that it appeared the bleeding had stopped," Aumack said.
Smith's mother says her son suffered a skull fracture and the stab wound came within one inch of his heart. Paramedics rushed Smith to a nearby landing zone where Life Force picked him up and flew him to Erlanger Medical Center.
