Apply Now for Hamilton Co. Magnet Schools

Applications are now available for Hamilton County Magnet Schools for the 2009-2010 school year. The deadline for lottery-based applications is January 31, 2009.

Parents may apply online at www.hcde.org/magnet or complete a paper application obtained from any magnet school or from the Hamilton County Board of Education, located at 3074 Hickory Valley Road.

Lottery-based applications are available for the following schools:

• 21st Century
• Barger Academy of Fine Arts
• Battle Academy
• Brown Academy
• Calvin Donaldson Environmental Science
• Lakeside Academy of Math, Science, and Technology
• Normal Park Museum Magnet
• Center for Creative Arts (audition required)
• East Lake Academy
• Tyner Middle School
• Brainerd High School
• Howard School of Academics and Technology
• Tyner Academy (incoming 9th grade only)

Magnet School students and families must comply with the following rules:

• Perform 18 hours of service hours (per family) to the school
• Attend two parent conferences
• Good attendance
• Follow the discipline policy as outlined in the Code of Acceptable Behavior published by the Hamilton County Department of Education.
• Stay at the magnet school for the remainder of the school year. No transfers to another Hamilton County School are allowed.
• Students applying for grades 10-12 must be on track to graduate with their cohort group.

Many schools have tours scheduled for parents. Interested parents are encouraged to call individual schools for tour details.
