East Ridge Mourns for Fallen Student

Students and teachers at East Ridge High School mourn the loss of one of their own Tuesday.

Monday afternoon Shanecia Kelly collapsed and died at the school during ROTC training.

Everyone said Shanecia, or Shay, as many people called her, was always a joyful person. She was a member or the band, and of ROTC, and leaves behind a strong memory at East Ridge High.

The messages and mournful goodbyes flood a Facebook page dedicated to Kelly. Some write poems to their friend, others leave photographs of the high school senior. All, express their love and support for her family after such sudden death. School officials say Kelly had just started physical training here outside the school yesterday afternoon when she collapsed. We're told teachers started CPR until paramedics arrived. Police say they are not exactly sure what caused her death, but would only say it was medical issues.

Today counselors were on hand to help students and teachers deal with the tragic loss.
