The 2009 high school football season kicks off in Tennessee Friday night. Georgia and Alabama teams play their season openers a week later.

Four new teams will be fielding teams this season... East Hamilton, Signal Mountain, Chattanooga Christian and North Murray in Georgia. Signal Mountain and CCS both play their season opener Friday, the Eagles hosting Hixson, the Chargers at Boyd-Buchanan. East Hamilton opens on the 28th, at Signal Mountain. North Murray will play a combined junior varsity and varsity schedule this season.
Newschannel 9's Sideline Wrapup coverage will be expanded this season. Sports Director Darrell Patterson, who's been covering high school football in the area for 41 years, and Dave Staley, a 20-year veteran of local coverage, will be joined by Chattanooga Times-Free Press reporter Stephen Hargis, who brings 20 years of local experience, Scott McMahon, aka Quake, from WGOW-FM's Red Zone, another 20-year veteran, and Heather Williams, who's been covering area high school football for 9 years.
Staley and Hargis will be covering our two games-of-the-week, with live reports. Quake will join Darrell in the studio, while Heather will anchor the technology center, blogging with viewers who can add their thoughts, or ask questions, by going to the Newschannel9 Facebook and/or Twitter pages.
