Remembering a Fallen Soldier - Lance Corp. Seth Sharp

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

The body of Lance Corporal Seth Sharp is back home Thursday night. He was flown in to the Calhoun, Georgia airport Thursday afternoon and was greeted by family, friends, and those who didn't even know the 20 year old man. There was silence as the plane landed and his casket was brought out and saluted. A procession of Patriot Riders and others in the community then led Sharp down to Adairsville.

Cindy Silvers says she brought her grandson out to share the importance of Sharp's sacrifice. "To be patriotic, remember what the flag stands for and always pay your respect to other people." Silvers teared up as she talked about how important it is for communities to support the troops. "Just watching all these people go by and I don't even know the family, but it just touches my heart to see all these people come out."

Wednesday, we sat down with Sharp's grandparents and best friend to learn more about his life and sacrifice.  Sharp grew up in Dalton, then moved to Adairsville where he realized he wanted to join the military.  He enlisted with the US Marines at age 17, and was just 20 when he was killed.  His father, Ric Sharp, told us over the phone Wednesday that he was "a brave young man who was outgoing, energetic, and enjoyed every day of his life."

Ric says his only son always thought of others before himself.  Sharp's best friend Justin Harrod agrees.  Harrod adds, "when he put his mind to something, he would do it and that's why he was so strong as a soldier."

Sharp's grandmother, Aileen, says she knows it will be hard getting over this, but is also very proud of her grandson.  She says she'll never forget his smile and his loving personality.  She says she just doesn't understand why he was taken at such a young age.

His visitation will be Friday, July 10 from 5 to 9 p.m. at NorthPointe Church in Adairsville.  The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the church.
