Marion Co. Murder Suspect Still On the Run
We are learning new information about the person of interest investigators are still trying to track down following a Monday murder in Marion County.
Marion County detectives want to find and question Michael Shirley in the murder of Brandi Duba. Authorities say they found Duba's body beaten and stabbed in her home Monday night. They tell us Shirley lived with, and dated Duba and was last seen leaving the home the night her body was found. Both Duba's children, ages 4 and 6, were found asleep in another room.
Wednesday we talked with Nikia Angle. She was Duba's best friend and recently lived with the couple. She says she saw Shirley's violent ways firsthand. She told us Shirley slammed her against a wall and put his hand around her throat, demanding a check from her. Angle says she was scared of Shirley and moved out. She says she Brandi never saw that side of Shirley.
"I've warned Brandi before that he was like this and she never listened," Angle said.
We also reviewed Shirley's TBI arrest record. It is ten pages long, and lists many charges, including 3 felony convictions.
Marion County Chief Detective Gene Hargis says he also had a felony conviction in Dade County, Ga. Those convictions include theft, burglary, evading arrest, and vehicular assault. He got out of Brushy Mountain State Prison about six months ago, serving about 5 years of a 7 year sentence.
Detective Hargis says he doesn't know if Shirley is even alive, or if he's armed. He says finding this person of interest is their top priority.
If you have any information on Shirley's whereabouts, call the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
