Searching For Ghosts In South Pittsburg
The South Pittsburg Hospital site has a rich and varied history.
"Back in the Civil War," says Evan Hayes, "at that time, it was used as a weigh station between the north and the south and it was neutral."
But since his father purchased the hospital back in 1998, Evan Hayes says there have been things there that no one can seem to explain.
"Telephones will ring when there's no power, you'll have things fly at you, you'll have little girls, as they've caught on tape, saying 'play with me, why won't anyone play with me'," he says.
Paranormal investigators say there's something going on there. And one group known as the "Hollywood Ghost Hunters" says there's definitely something lurking at the old hospital.
"I'll tell ya right now, I was in there and I felt a lot of presence," says Steve Nappe, a member of the "Hollywood Ghost Hunters."
Many in the "Hollywood Ghost Hunters" have actual Hollywood connections--as writers, or, in the case of Kane Hodder, an actor known for some of his more gruesome roles.
"I, for 16 years, played Jason in the 'Friday the 13th' movies, and I played a character called Victor Crowley in 'Hatchet'," says Kane Hodder.
They've descended upon the old South Pittbsburg hospital to see if it's haunted.
"We see shadow people, we hear voices, we have EMF detectors," says Rick McCollum.
And they have security camera in corners of the abandoned hospital to see if any apparitions appear. Hayes says he's seen locked doors become unlocked, and has doors mysteriously slam in his face. And there hasn't been power here for years, but he says you can still see and hear things that just can't be explained.
"Well, if you come here, you'll get scared, one way or another," says Hayes.
The show itself is in its development stage, so it won't be appearing yet on a television near you.
As for what they found out, you'll just have to wait until --and if-- that show premieres.
As for what the owners plan to do with the hospital--they're wanting to open it up for paranormal tours.
