State Employee Arrested by TBI
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A Tennessee state employee from Cleveland was arrested by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation today for Official Misconduct.
John Mark Stewart, 31, is employed by the Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions.
He was indicted by the McMinn County Grand Jury this week on four counts of Official Misconduct.
Stewart works as an examiner for the state department and was investigated by the TBI after the District Attorney requested agents to look into allegations of inappropriate business conduct.
Stewart is accused of approaching a business owner that he had met through his job as an examiner, and offering to examine the owner's financial records for a fee. This fee would ensure the business would always pass an examination by the Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions and avoid any current or future fines levied by the department. Stewart's offer was to work secretly, check the books twice monthly for a fee of $25,000.
Stewart was booked into the McMinn County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
