SWAT Team Arrests Armed Suspect

This morning at 8:47am East Ridge Police were called to Kimberly Apartments at 5346 Ringgold Rd on a "disorder with a weapon" call. Officers were told by the victim that a man who lives at 1505 Prigmore Rd., located directly behind the apartments, had pointed a handgun at him and threatened his life after an argument. The suspect then fled back inside his home.

Police made several attempts to contact the suspect by phone and by loudspeaker, but the man would not respond.

The East Ridge SWAT team was called an arrest warrant for the suspect was issued as the SWAT team officers made preparations.

Negotiators made a final attempt to make contact with the suspect without success. SWAT officers then made a forced entry into the home where the suspect was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Brian S. McNew, 39, has been charged with Aggravated Assault and a second unrelated charge. McNew has a scheduled court date of May 26th at 5pm in East Ridge Municipal Court.
