Student Stunned With Taser Gun
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A Red Bank High School student got a shocking form of discipline this morning.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department says for the FIRST time, a school Resource Officer used a Taser stun gun on a student.
The Sheriff's Department says the incident happened at Red Bank around 8:45 this morning after the student had taken a test. Educators called for School Resource Officer Tim Mann when the student became disruptive, started cursing and saying he was looking for another student.
Sergeant Max Templeton says officer Mann and the student wrestled, the student broke free and then the officer told him he was about to use the gun on him. Sergeant Templeton says the policy for Taser use does not change with a person's age.
"The policy is the same. It doesn't matter if it's a child or an adult if someone is not compliant. We have a of force continuum in our policy. The Taser is the same as using pepper spray or a baton," Sergeant Templeton said.
The student in question had been on zero tolerance violation and had been sent to the Washington Alternative School.
He was back at Red Bank to take a required test.
The student has been charged with criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct, simple assault and resisting arrest.
