MDA Labor Day Telethon Coming on NewsChannel 9

WTVC NewsChannel 9 is proud to be hosting our 20th year of the MDA Labor Day Telethon. The telethon will air starting Sunday, September 5th at 11:30pm and will run until Monday at 7:00p.m. Donations may be made by calling 800-632-9561, locally 423-634-0859 or donate online at www.mda.org.

First broadcast over Labor Day weekend in 1966 by a lone TV station in New York City, the unique event starring popular comedian Jerry Lewis quickly caught the public’s attention – and raised more than $1 million in pledges.

Now, more than 40 years later, the show will be broadcast by 180 MDA “Love Network” stations, including NewsChannel 9, assisted by 250,000 volunteers across the country. Around 40 million people will see the show.

The telethon will be broadcast nationally from Las Vegas by longtime host Jerry Lewis and hosted locally at the Chattanooga Theatre Center by Calvin Sneed, Kim Chapman, Latricia Thomas, Don Welch, David Glenn, Karen Zatkulak and MDA goodwill ambassador Chris Johnson.
