Disaster Relief Centers in Catoosa, Chattooga Closing

Three weeks ago it would have been hard to imagine the waters would recede.  But they did.  And Saturday night--another sign of moving on.  The Disaster Recovery Center in Ringgold closed its doors.

The numbers  of people coming in have dwindled down and their services--for now--are no longer needed in the county.

"That's a good sign that we've met the needs and we'll go on and go to the other counties that need assistance also," says Robin Wright.

Wright is with the Manager of the Catoosa County Disaster Recovery Center.  The floods left behind a mess that she says is an all too common sight for many people in Catoosa County.  And what's worse--many didn't have flood insurance.

"If it's not in a flood zone, most people don't carry flood insurance, so fema will assist with flood damages," she says.

Wright says in the three weeks since the flooding, they've helped almost 2-hundred people in the county affected by the floods.

These Disaster Recovery Centers serve to help people get the help they need.  "Disaster Recovery Centers are basically where they come in and take care of all their housing needs, and personal property needs," says Wright.

It's all an effort to get those who lost so much, gain at least some back.

Anyone who still needs help can call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).
