All Clear After Dalton Chemical Leak
UPDATE from Bruce Frazier, Dalton Police Dept. spokesman
: The incident was not an explosion but a chemical reaction accident. The reaction is over and the chemical is not poisonous but is an irritant.
It occurred at MFG Chemical. Today's reaction was at a different MFG plant that the large release that occured in 2004. The chemical reaction released today was Malaic Anhydride long chain alcohol. The chemicals reacted and escaped the container they were in. Although the chemicals stayed in building, some vapors left plant and could be smelled on Hwy 41.
2 people were hurt. One was taken to an area hospital and another flown to the Augusta burn center with severe injuries of inhalation .
BREAKING: Dalton Police and Fire are working on a chemical explosion that happened around 7 a.m. Monday morning.
It was at a plant on Kimberly Park Drive.
Willowdale Road, Kimberly Park Drive, and Crow Valley Road are all
closed. Avoid the area. Those who live in the area are advised to stay
indoors and shelter in place for now.
Dalton Police do not know what the chemical is or an exact address for the
incident at this time. There have been no reports of injuries. Depend on us to keep you updated.
