Arson Investigation Underway Following Overnight Fire
Chattanooga firefighters were called to a house fire that investigators say was intentionally set.
It happened 404 Somerville Avenue about 12:30 am. Captain Michelle Thorne said the first firefighters found visible smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home. Captain Thorne said the firefighters had to force their way into the house.
The fire was beginning to extend into the attic, but the firefighters were able to head it off and contain the blaze to the rear of the house. There were no injuries. Damage was estimated at $25,000.
Lt. Andrew Waters with the Fire Investigation Division believes it is arson. The house has been unoccupied for about two years and appeared to be in the process of being remodeled. There was no power going to the home. The investigation will be ongoing.
