CARTA Drivers Retire with One Million Miles
After decades of experience, two very special CARTA drivers retired with more than a million miles on the road. What makes that record even more special is that they clocked those miles with absolutely no accidents. NewsChannel9 rode along as one of those remarkable drivers as his CARTA bus made it's last stop.
Charles Stoudemire's career is spotless. Over a million miles on the road- with absolutely no accidents. Over the last 37 years Charles has collected a bus full of fans, their beaming faces in his rear view mirror. "It's a very, very prestigious award and I'm very very excited to be a member of the million mile club," says Stoudemire.
Charles' riders are not only losing a driver, but a friend - someone who was there to listen. "I'm going to miss those people because the passengers and the people, they're the ones that make the job a special job," says Charles.
Along with Charles, Chattanooga's oldest bus driver, Fred Wheeler, also retired a few weeks ago with 43 years under his belt.
