Case Against Bessie Smith Center Theft Suspect Sent to Grand Jury
The case against the man accused of burglarizing and vandalizing the Bessie Smith Cultural Center has been bound over to a grand jury.
Torrey Lamar Hines, 35, is accused of breaking into the Bessie Smith Center the day after the strut and stealing more than $50,000. Hines faces charges of burglary, theft of property and vandalism after he admitted to breaking into the center and stealing cash from a desk drawer.
Hines was employed by the center to do janitorial work. In court today, Hines' attorney, Bill Speek said that his client " has been fully cooperative in the investigation and he's going to remain to be fully cooperative."
