Chattanooga Woman Fights Off Burglar; Police Arrest Suspect
Chattanooga police arrest a man after they say he tried to break into two homes this morning. One of the victims fought back.
"Yea I hit him.," said Annie Rice,60, "I don't know [how many times] I just kept hitting him."
A banging at the door of Rice's Tunnel Blvd home woke her up around 3:15 Monday morning.
"Somebody calling me like I'm their "auntie", their aunt and I kept saying what do you want," said Rice, "finally I opened the door because I got tired of all the beating."
Once the door opened, Rice came face to face with the barrel of a gun.
"That's when I got pissed and got to beating him," said Rice, "I said "uh uh," you can't come up in here."
Minutes before, the would-be intruder had previously tried breaking into her neighbors house.
"Someone knocked on my door and was trying to get in," said Tommy Garner who lives close by, "they were shaking the door like they lived here."
Garner says he ignored the gunman
"Don't open the door for nobody, I don't care who it is," said Garner, "if they know you, still don't open the door."
The suspect then set his sights on Rice's home.
"Mrs. Annie whooped his behind trying to get in and shoot her," said Garner.
"He went to shoot his little pistol and I was just beating him and then he just took off," said Rice.
Police arrested 24 year old Deangelo Lovingood behind a church near Tunnel Blvd. They matched his black eye and cut on his nose to Rice's description.
"I guess he found out a 60 year old has more sense then he thought she did," said Rice.
