Clerk Shot, Save-A-Ton Robbed on Lee Highway
Chattanooga police are looking for the person who shot a gas station clerk and robbed a store on Lee Highway Sunday night.
"Just shocked," said a woman named Pam, who was putting gas in her car Monday morning, "I come here quite a bit because it's on my way coming and going."
Pam says the area tends to be pretty quiet.
"I'm just blown away because like I say, it's so close to an area that I live," said Pam.
But there's been crimes in the past at the intersection of Lee Highway and Ballard.
Just feet away from where the armed robbery happened, an auto shop was burglarized several years ago. It forced them them to make some security changes.
"We can see everything right here, " said Tim Pursey, the Assistant Manager at Maxi Auto Service pointing to their security monitors, "a little bit of the gas station right here."
Pursey says burglars broke through a back door of the shop four or five years ago.
"They took some mufflers, took some things, and of course robbed the register."
Since then, the owners of the shop have put up several cameras and attached alarms to the entrances.
"If you open that door and you don't punch in the code, the police will be here in about five minutes," said Pursey.
The Save-A-Lot also has security cameras which caught the criminal in action.
He took an unknown amount of money and shot the clerk in the stomach.
Police say the clerk will survive.
"I hate it that that happened to him and I'm glad he's ok," said Pursey.
Police are still searching for the man pictured above. Pursey says he'll keep an eye on the area.
"I hope they get him before he hurts anybody else or before he goes down somewhere else and tries it again."
