Dog Dies in Hot Car After Owner Shopped at Walmart for 13 Hours
CRESTVIEW, Fla. - 49-year-old Cassaundra Rasmussen was arrested after police say she left her dog Waldo inside her car at a Walmart parking lot last Thursday.
The dog was discovered by another a Walmart shopper in the parking lot in the afternoon.
Police say there was no food or water in the car for the dog and even though a window was partially cracked, temperatures rose which resulted in the dog's death.
Police say Rasmussen was inside of Walmart "browsing" for approximately 13 hours, and when confronted, she said she forgot the dog was inside of the vehicle.
The dog's cause of death was heat exhaustion as a result of the high temperatures in the vehicle, according to police.
Cassaundra Rasmussen was charged with one count of Misdemeanor Cruelty Towards Animals.
