Former Grundy Sheriff's Captain Indicted
A former Grundy County Sheriff's Department captain faces an indictment from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Deke Matthew Stone is charged in connection with stealing handguns from the department's evidence room.
Agents tell us the investigation started back in August of last year at the request of 12th District Attorney General J. Michael Taylor.
During the course of the investigation, agents say they learned that in June 2013, Stone took three handguns from the department’s evidence room.
Stone left his job with the department before the TBI case began.
On Monday, the Grundy County Grand Jury returned indictments for the Altamont man, charging him with one count of Official Misconduct and one count of Theft over $1,000.
On Wednesday, the 33-year-old turned himself in to TBI Agents at the Grundy County Jail, where he was released after posting $7,500 bond.
