Hamilton County Bans Campaign Materials In County Buildings
We first told you earlier this week about a list of lawyers supporting the re-election of Criminal Court Clerk, Gwen Tidwell.
Attorney Hank Hill hung six flyers in the Hamilton County Courthouse with a list of 63 attorneys supporting Tidwell.
Federal law states no political signs are allowed in or outside government buildings, but there was no specific policy written out by the county.
Wednesday, the Hamilton County Commission voted to make their own policy, banning all signs from Hamilton County government buildings.
The board voted unanimously that the signs should be prevented from government buildings.
Hill says their decision is a blatant violation of the first amendment.
"If you can't grasp the 1st amendment, which gives us the right to express our opinions and address government, then you can't begin to grasp the really complex ones like the 4th, 5th, and 6th amendment that guarantees your and my individual freedom."
All of those signs have been removed from the courthouse.
