A Soddy Daisy woman guilty of lying under oath was sentenced to prison Thursday Morning. Janet Brown, (pictured above leaving federal court Thursday) must report to prison by Aug. 22 to serve 12 months behind bars after she plead guilty to lying in bankruptcy court.
Janet Brown is the wife of the late Jack Brown, who was at the center of a Soddy Daisy ponzi scheme before he died last year.
At a meeting of creditors in April last year, Brown admitted to lying about turning in all of the jewelry that she owned. The plea agreement said three days later, Brown handed over a bag containing jewelry worth $25,000.
Her husband, Jack Brown, who passed away back in September, was accused of stealing millions of dollars from investors.
At her sentencing federal judge Curtis Collier said "The bankruptcy system can not work unless people are truthful."
In court Brown said she was very sorry and that she caused her family pain. She ask the judge to let her take care of her son and grandchildren.
